Getting A call to SSPI failed the target principal name is incorrect message

If you are getting this error message  in the middle of the AX installation: "Unable to get version information using existing WCF configuration from local storage. Exception details:
Microsoft.Dynamics.AX.Framework.Services.Client.MetadataServiceException: Exception occurred on the metadata service on client or server. See exception details below:
>A call to SSPI failed, see inner exception. ---> ..... The target principal name is incorrect."

then the fix might be a simple one: just perform a Refresh Configuration on the (active - be that local client or business connector) AX configuration you are using in the Dynamics AX Configuration Utility. Then you can export this to an .axc file if you are using a configuration file in your setup.
